Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Innovative Genomics Institute Announce New Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures

Updated: 1 day ago

On July 8th 2025, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) announced the funding of the New Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Innovative Genomics Institute announced the creation of the Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures, a $20 million project to develop personalized gene therapies for rare childhood genetic diseases. The center will connect research and treatment design at UC Berkeley with clinical care at UC San Francisco, beginning with eight pilot cases. The landmark case of “Baby KJ,” the first patient treated with a personalized CRISPR therapy, will serve as a model to standardize and accelerate the development of tailored treatments for more children in the future.

This milestone signals a new chapter for CRISPR medicine.
