10x Genomics is acquiring Scale Biosciences in a $30M cash-and-stock deal plus milestones.
10x Genomics has announced plans to acquire Scale Biosciences in a $30 million cash-and-stock deal, plus potential milestone payments. The move adds Scale’s breakthrough technologies—combinatorial indexing and quantum barcoding—to 10x’s Chromium platform, significantly expanding scalability and lowering costs for high-throughput single-cell analysis. Scale’s approach allows millions of cells to be profiled in parallel without the need for complex microfluidics, making large-scale projects like population-level cell mapping more feasible. As part of the deal, Scale’s founding scientists, including Garry Nolan, Jay Shendure, and Cole Trapnell, will join 10x as scientific advisors. Their expertise is expected to accelerate ambitious initiatives such as the 100 Million Cell Challenge and the Billion Cells Project, positioning 10x Genomics to strengthen its leadership in single-cell genomics and broaden its reach into new research and clinical applications.
